Does your school/club have a defibrillator/AED on its premises? Should an emergency arise would you know how to use it? Perform effective CPR? On a child or adult? With the rise in Sudden Arrhythmia Death Syndrome cases, many clubs around the country invested in their members health and safety and purchased an AED for their clubhouse. A few individuals were trained up and then life went on.
One day, a few years down the line, a player collapses, and someone goes looking for the defibrillator. They can’t access it or the battery is flat or the pads are out of date thus reducing their effectiveness.
The individual tries to remember what he was taught about giving CPR all those years ago - The clock is ticking. He does remember though that for every minute that passes without effective intervention the chances of that players survival are reduced by 10%. These devices when used by a trained person can save a life. But how many in your club know how to use it, are trained in CPR and when was the last time your AED was checked?
